DESERT TERRARIUMS
Keep Cacti and Succulents happy and healthy in a terrarium. Desert Terrariums are popular, easy care gift ideas for a sunny spot.
A Terrarium [tuh-rair-ee-uhm] refers to a plant or miniature landscape within a glass container. The glass allows you to observe the environment above and below the soil surface. Terrariums are popular because they are extremely easy to care for and exist as unique pieces of living art.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
- Light - At least 2-3 hours of direct sun daily is recommended
- Humidity - Cacti and Succulents prefer dry conditions - do not mist or close terrarium (air flow is important)
- Water - Water only when soil is completely dry. Check for signs of moisture in base of terrarium (pooled water, condensation, dark soil) and, if present, do not water. Dry soil appears greyish and pulls away from the glass. When watering, drizzle water slowly throughout terrarium and stop as the water pools in the base. Depending on how much sun your terrarium is getting and the season, you may need to water anywhere from once a week to once every several weeks. About every 3 weeks is typical. If you're not sure, it is always better to wait another week or two than give Cacti and Succulents too much water.
