Floral Design for Better Mental Health!

Like a lot of people, with the rush of the holiday season over we get to thinking about wellness, both physical and mental. There are so many ways to practice mindfulness and bring a greater sense of calm and purpose to life, and flowers can be one of them! We think of floral design as a kind of wellness practice or self-care routine. Interested? Read on!

1) Working with flowers can be a great way to relax and unwind. After all, the stakes are low: even if you’re not an expert designer, if you start with lovely seasonal blooms, you’re going to end up with something great to look at. There’s no cause for anxiety, you can focus on the task at hand and let other thoughts drift away.

2) Floral design can even be meditative! If you’ve ever practiced a bit of meditation, you know that giving your mind a task to focus on is a great way to train your skills of awareness and staying present. Experience the sensations of the stems moving through your fingers, the delicate scents of the blooms, or the gentle visual stimulation of the pretty colours.

3) Creativity and self-expression are very important for our wellness: we all need to feel that we have ways to create and add something to the world. Learning a new skill and then using it to express a thought, an emotion, or an idea is one of the most rewarding things one can do.

4) Connecting with nature is a key to happiness, and flowers are a way to hold a piece of nature right in your own two hands! With our locally-grown and fair-trade blooms, you’ll know you’re treating Mother Earth right, too.

5) Another major component of happiness and wellness is connecting socially with others, so why not take part in a Floral Design Workshop? Bring a loved one and enjoy being creative together, or come by yourself and make a few new friends! Or imagine how good you’ll feel being able to gift your beautiful floral creation to someone you love and say “I made this for you.”
