If you've been shopping with us already, you've been supporting Canadian producers all along! As part of our commitment to sustainability, the vast majority of our flowers are grown right here in Ontario. Yes, even in winter, almost all the Toronto flowers in our cooler are greenhouse-grown just down the road in the Niagara and Southern Ontario regions. This keeps the carbon footprint low and helps us avoid any pesky tariffs, too!
"But surely not everything is locally grown?" you might be wondering, and you'd be right. Here are some more details on what is and isn't local, and what we're doing to cut out any American suppliers as threats to Canadian sovereignty continue:
- All of our Roses are Fair Trade certified from Ecuador. Fair Trade certification ensures workers are paid a fair wage, have safety protections on the job, and have health care and education right in their local communities. Some other Toronto flowers, some varieties are Fair Trade imports for parts of the year when they can't be grown locally.
- Some of our suppliers of greenery and foliage are American. We will be avoiding those producers for now in favour of different types of foliage that are grown in Canada or can be imported Fair-Trade.
- Most of our tropical houseplants are already grown here in Ontario, as well as gorgeous flowering specimens like Orchids, Azaleas, and Poinsettias. Some varieties may be temporarily unavailable as local growers shift their production to grow more options locally.
